We’re appealing for witnesses following a housebreaking in the Grange area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning while the elderly homeowner was asleep. He awoke in the morning to discover the break-in.

The owner had several items of property stolen including a large quantity of cash, two gold female wedding bands and three antique watches.

Five World War Two medals that have great sentimental value for the owner were also stolen and he is anxious to see them returned. An example picture of these medals is included below.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to contact police.

Detective Inspector Alan O’Brien said: “This is an upsetting incident for the elderly occupant, who is understandably concerned at the loss of several items carrying a great deal of sentimental value.

“We are eager to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Grange area overnight from Saturday into Sunday morning.

“The owner is very keen to see the property returned. Anyone who can help us with our enquiries is urged to come forward.”
